Institute presentation

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research United Kingdom (CRUK) Centre of Excellence and one of the few European Cancer Centres to allocate resources to both basic and applied research in an integrated fashion, thus supporting the interaction of basic research programmes with those of molecular diagnostics and drug discovery/development. The BCI has facilities for molecular biology, advanced microscopy, advanced cytogenetics, functional genomics, immunohistochemistry and molecular imaging. In addition, the animal facility at BCI hosts a large variety of mouse and human xenograft models of pancreatic cancer reflecting the strong interest and commitment of the BCI to pancreatic cancer research. Indeed, six groups have pancreatic cancer as a major focus of their research activities, covering a broad spectrum of knowledge and expertise and providing an exceptional opportunity for advancing challenging projects. The BCI is a vibrant and rewarding environment for graduate students, with weekly seminar series and termly Distinguished Guest Lectures, as well as competitive funding for travel bursaries to attend international conferences.
